What will the Paris Marathon 2024 be like?
Just as the opening of the 2024 Olympics will implement many changes and innovations, the marathon of this Olympic event will be no different.
And it is that the route has been inspired by “La Marche des femmes” (The Women’s March) that occurred on October 5 and 6, 1789 in the middle of the French Revolution, when a group of women came out to demand the increase in the price of bread and put pressure on King Louis XVI of France to return to Paris.
This is how nearly 7,000 women walked from the City Hall to Versailles, in a fact that marked the end of the French monarchy. For that reason and also in honor of women, the women’s marathon will be the event that closes the next 2024 Olympic Games on Sunday, August 11.
The 42,195 km of the 2024 Paris Marathon will have a demanding and exciting route, with 438 meters of negative elevation gain and a maximum gradient of 13.5% that will challenge all participants in a place so full of history.
The men’s race will take place on Saturday, August 10 and it is expected that at least 80 elite athletes will participate in each of them.
A marathon for everyone
In addition, at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games it will be the first time in history that 20,024 free places will be available so that people who are not professional athletes can follow the same 42-kilometre Olympic route.
