Louis Vuitton Foundation
The Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris is a museum dedicated to contemporary art, located in a spectacular building within the Bois de Boulogne, one of the largest parks in Paris. The museum is a project of the LVMH group (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy) a French multinational conglomerate owner of 76 renowned brands worldwide that was formed after the merger of the fashion house Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy (Moët & Chandon + Hennessy).
What to see in the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris
The Louis Vuitton Foundation Collection includes works owned by the LVMH group and works from the private collection of businessman Bernard Arnault, who wanted to give Paris an exceptional space for art and culture.
It is organized around four directions: Contemplative, Popist, Expressionist, Music/Sound.
You can see works by contemporary artists such as Gerhard Richter, Bertrand Lavier, Christian Boltanski, Olafur Eliasson, Thomas Schütte and Pierre Huyghe, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gilbert & George, and Jeff Koons.
Both the building and the quality of its exhibitions make it completely worth a visit.
Architecture of the Louis Vuitton Foundation Museum in Paris
The glass building, which resembles a sailing ship, has 12,000 m² distributed over two floors, an auditorium and eleven galleries. It was designed by the architect Frank Gehry, famous Canadian architect who won the Pritzker Prize and recognized for works such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Golden Fish in the Olympic Port of Barcelona.
Where is the Louis Vuitton Foundation
As we said above, the foundation is located in the Bois de Boulogne, a huge park two and a half times larger than Central Park in New York and 3.3 times larger than Hyde Park in London, but smaller than the House of Madrid Field.
This area corresponds to the 16th arrondissement of Paris, better known as Passy.
