The Pompidou Center in Paris is a place dedicated to modern art in all its forms: painting, sculpture, cinema, literature, music, etc.
Also known as the Beaubourg Center, it houses the Georges Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture. It was inaugurated in 1977 and is located on Saint Martin Street, one of the oldest in Paris, whose appearance contrasts with the modern architecture of the museum, based on air ducts, escalators and pipes on the façade.
The center, one of the most visited museums in Paris, is a huge rectangular prism with glass walls and large white chimneys on the outside that are fully visible underground ventilation ducts.
The appearance of the museum caused great controversy in its first years of life and came to be called “Our Lady of the Pipe”, due to its appearance of a building without walls where all the structures are visible.
What to see at the Pompidou
It is divided into six floors, with various exhibition halls, both permanent and temporary, where you can admire works by Jackson Pollock, Picasso, Miró and Kandinsky.
It also has a public library and a music research center, conference rooms, cinemas, shops and a terrace restaurant.
The square of the building is also important, it hosts special events and is always full of young people, families with children, tourists and artists.
The works of modern art at the Center Pompidou put it on a par with the Tate in London and the MoMA in New York.
