Galeries Lafayette
Luxury department store with a glass dome and Art Nouveau architecture
Galeries Lafayette
Galeries Lafayette is today a French luxury department store chain, the largest in Europe.
It began as a small fashion boutique founded by Théophile Bader and his cousin Albert Kahn, and thanks to its success it later expanded to fill an entire building in the Boulevard Haussmann, of art nouveau architecture, with a magnificent dome and a panoramic view of Paris that has since made it not only a store but also a tourist attraction of the French capital.
Today the chain has several branches in Paris and other locations around the world, but the original store, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, which is the one worth visiting for its beauty, is located at 40 Boulevard Haussmann, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, 200 meters from the Opéra Garnier.
